"Reviving Marriages" - Pt. 1 - Ezra 9

"HOW you deal with issues in your marriage is just as important as THAT you'd deal with issues."
THE PROBLEM ENCOUNTERED: (9:1-2)
Why such a big deal?
1) Prophecy
2) History
"From the leaders and priests, down to the common people, it was accepted as normal behavior instead of sinful."
2 Cor. 6:14-18

THE RESPONSE FROM EZRA: (9:3-15)
3-4) RESPONSE #1 - GRIEF
"He shows his heart before he shows his hand."
Luke 19:41-45
"Weep before you whip!"
"Correction is not about getting my idea in place, but God's glory restored in that life."
5) RESPONSE #2 - PRAYER
Ps. 61:1-2
6-7) first we see CONFESSION in prayer.
"For sin to be dealt with rightly, there must be a confession of it first."
8-9) second we see a RECOGNITION in prayer.
"Once you've confessed the sin, then focus on how good and gracious God has been."
10-12) "How you respond to sin has a trickle effect not only in your marriage, but upon your kids."
13-14) third we see a REALIZATION in prayer.
If God punished us before this, wouldn't He do it again?
Ezra demonstrates for us in ch. 9 the need for a holy community around a holy God.
"Your miseries can never outdo God's mercy."
How to revive your marriage:
1) identify the problem
2) grieve over sin
3) Confess it
4) recognize God's goodness in spite of your sinfulness
5) realize that all sin must be judged
"Once confessed move forward in grace. Set some new habits that strengthen that spiritual bond in marriage."
